Its been over Five decades after her death, we’re still trying to figure out what the heck happened to Marilyn Monroe! Well, there may be a new development.

Dr. S. David Bernstein is a Harvard-trained forensic psychologist and the head of Forensic Consultants LLC, and he thinks he’s found a clue!

A check signed by Mz Monroe the day before she died was written for $228.80 to Pilgrim’s Furniture for a chest of white drawers. Dr. Bernstein, who’s doing this work pro-bono, explained why this is interesting:

“People about to kill themselves frequently engage in self-soothing behaviors. Spending — and giving things away — make us feel good. A single item — especially something practical like a chest of drawers and of a low value like this — suggests a frame of mind of ‘I’m going to be here for awhile.’ If I were doing a psychological autopsy, this would be intriguing. This would be more consistent with someone who is not suicidal.”
